SOURCE OF GANGES TREK |

Gangotri -Gaumukh -Nandavan-Tapovan Trek :
This trek combines the experience of
mountain climbing, rock climbing, boulder-hopping and glacier traversing. The
trek is not a very rigoroous one and is easily negotiable by non mountaineers
too. It passes through orchards of coniferous pine trees at chir-basa and birch
at Bhojasa. From Gaumukh to Nandanvan, one traverses along the Gangotri and
Chatturangini glaciers. Pitch a camp at the junction of chatturangini and
Bhagirathi gangotri glaciers. From Nandanvan, view the Shivling, Bhagirathi,
Sudarshana, thelu peaks and Kedar Dome. Cross the Gangotri glacier and rocky
face before arriving at the lush green meadows of tapovan, surrounded by many
named and unnamed peaks of the Garhwal Himalayas.
Day-1 : Rishikesh /
Uttarkashi Drive 5-6 Hrs.
Early morning drive to Uttarkashi. Arrive and transfer to river side nature
Resort. Remaining day to Relax and to acclimatize. Dinner and overnight river
side resort.

Day-2 : Uttarkashi /
Gangotri Drive 8-10 Hrs.
Morning after breakfast drive to Gangotri, may make a comfort stop at Gangnani
hot springs. Those who want can have a quick refreshing bath in the pool /
shower. Arrive Gangotri and transfer to hotel. Visit Gangotri temple for Arti,
evening prayer dedicated to goddess Ganges.
Diner and overnight hotel.
Day-3: Gangotri /
Bhojbasa Trek 5-6 Hrs.
Morning after breakfast visit the famous Gangotri temple. Later we trek to
Bhojbasa. The entire trek today is along the roaring bhagirathi river. Arrive
Bhojbasa and camp. Afternoon free to explore the area and to enjoy excellent
sunset on Bhagirathi group of peaks.
Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day-4 :
Bhojbasa / Gomukh / Tapovan Trek 5-6 Hrs.
Morning enjoy the panoramic view of Bhagirathi group of peaks. After
breakfast trek to Gomukh, the source of the Ganges. Explore the area and trek to
Tapovan, one of the finest high altitude alpine meadows in the area. Today we
traverse the entire Gangotri glacier to reach Tapovan. Arrive Tapovan and camp.
Dinner and overnight camp.
Day-5 : Tapovan
Dinner and overnight camp.
Day-6 : Tapovan /
Nandan Van
Trek 4-5 Hrs.
Day free to explore the area. One can read, meditate, walk to the base of high
peaks and explore high altitude flora and fauna. Evening encounter the most
panoramic sunset on high peaks.
Dinner and overnight camp.
Day-7 :
Nandan Van / Bhojbasa Trek 4-5 Hrs.
Early morning enjoy the sunrise on high peaks. After breakfast trek down to
Bhojbasa. Arrive Bhojbasa and camp.
Dinner and overnight camp.
Day-8 :
Bhojbasa / Gangotri Trek 4-5 Hrs.
Morning after breakfast trek down to Gangotri.
Meals and overnight hotel.
Day-9 : Gangotri /
Rishikesh Drive 8-9 Hrs.
We take the early morning car to Rishikesh. We stop for a refreshing hot water
bath at the Gangnani hot springs. Packed lunch enroute. Arrive Rishikesh. Tour
terminates upon arrival at Rishikesh.

Days:
1 Start Delhi, drive or train to Hardwar, one of the seven sacred
Hindu sites.
2 Drive to Uttarkhasi, a centre for yoga studies, on the banks of the Bhagirathi River. 3 Spectacular mountain drive to Gangotri, one of the four holy 'dhams' and trek start point. 4 Follow the course of the river valley to Chirbasa. 5 Trek through forests and meadows to Gaumukh, the source of the River Ganges. 6 Free to acclimatise, relax and enjoy the magnificent mountain landscape. 7/ 8 Cross the large terminal moraine field to the high altitude meadow at Tapovan (4350m) below Shivling (6543m) and Bhagirathi 1(6856m). 9/ 10 Return along the river valley to Gangotri via Chirbasa. 11 Leave the high Himalaya and drive to Hardwar. 12 Train or drive to Delhi. Cost: Rs.50,000 per person (for group of more then 5 pax ) 4.08% government service tax and permits fees extra. COSTS include: Road transportation from Rishikesh to Rishikesh by car, Accommodation in Medium Class Hotels (where applicable) on a twin sharing basis, all Meals, tents on twin share basis, cooking tent and utensils, table and chairs, permits and entrance fees, English speaking guide, cooks and porters/mules.
